Week 12

Open Studios Week!

This week, it was time to show the world our progress, despite it being a work-in-progress. (tough) Opportunities to present, and opportunities to get feedbacks, and gauge whether the project is being communicated well.

A few more adjustments for Table Set-up

  • Final Set Up Left to Right: Introduction to Outcome

  • Close Up Sorry I didn't take a good picture of this

Thank you handyman Zarer for helping me with hammering the nail into the wall. The poster looks so much better now that it's elevated. However, I think I should have print it a little bit more thicker, so that it stays on the wall sturdier without bending so much.

Documentating Moments

  • My Friends With their last-minute M a g i c

  • Merlin Alda

It was really nice to see everyone in class again. Maybe I have been isolating myself too much, but watching the cohort come together and the class being more crowded felt like community and I think I kinda miss chatting with everyone here and there too.

Open Studios

The day that I fear is finally here. Immediately after I went to class, Chon, Phoebe and Weiren came over to my table. I was so nervous actually, but my presenting mode came on and I just naturally explained what my project was about. Instantly, I got validated. Weiren, who knew what I was talking about, commented that he also agrees that 1. websites are disappearing, and 2. Internet Art/ Digital Culture - with it's ephemeral nature, is like a "lost art".

But the much younger peers, it was harder for them to grasp what I was trying to say. In that case, I use the explanation of Internet like a space. There are huge cities, skyscrapers, like huge websites like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. But there are also small spaces, like mini micro websites, and that's where Garden Web stands.

  • Kaisiang interacting with browser

  • Image-making with browsers

In day 2 of open studios, I honestly still felt embarrassed to let users user-test my website, as it wasn't refined. So I decided to just incorporate one interaction which was gestures to browsers as a main point of interaction. And it did help people pique their interest further. It was also easier to show them a famous form of net art - which was browser art.

Other cohort mate's works

  • Jansley's Project

  • My favourite question Got me thinking.

I love the emotional aspect of Jansley's work. I can tell she put in so much research into each questions. The interaction of picking up the phone and speaking into it is brilliant too. Would have been great if there was an intimate space, but still I think it was a good experience.

Deliverables Discussion with Andreas

  • Sequence of Presentation of Deliverables

After trying out presenting to audiences during open studio, I feel like I've established a good flow of how I want to present my project, and discussed with Andreas how it was going to be like.
