Week 12
A Whole Week of Trying and Failing!
Tracing back my previous experiments, this is what we have: gestures to browsers, cursor party, visual explorations, and now we're here.
I've yet to find an angle that allows me to have user's input and response which isn't so ephemeral (like cursor party).
The closest of it is gestures to browsers, but I do forsee my laptop acting up a lot if I were to continue experimenting
with that. Looking at the topic of alternative web spaces, sometimes I do feel stuck speculating what a website could be next.
But oh well, life goes on, and the web could be anything am i right?!
Simplicity has so much humanity, so let's start with that principle. With that, I bring on my next exploration and experiment:
How can we create alternate web spaces on our phones? I don't think I did a great job with that question but what I
essentially meant is, how can we use our phones as an interface for alternative browsing?
I was reminded so much about this, which I found really funny, but when I thought about it, it's so true!
How my macbook sees me I think im a the hunchback of notre-dame with my bad posture though
Update: I just couldn't make it work
Honestly, this whole ordeal got me really frustrated that I barely took any screenshots, or pictures to document my failures. What am I documenting if I couldn't even get anything work in the first place?! The only documentation I had was on ChatGPT, so perhaps I'll show my challenges through that.
Challenge: "I'm unable to open the browser on my phone"
How my macbook sees me I think im a the hunchback of notre-dame with my bad posture though
It's either I'm not mentally prepared, or I'm too rookie for this, or worse case - both, but I do not have the fight left in me to try to solve this problem, after trying to change my ip address, fiddling with firewall settings, looking everywhere for browser settings on my iPad... Let's just leave this issue alone and move on to better things...
A Website That Converts Image to Pixel Art
This was another experiment that just didn't see the light of day because I don't know what I'm doing and why I'm doing it. I realised that I wasn't very specific about the pixel sizes(?), or I didn't understand how pixel art really worked, the different types and how it affects images, as opposed to manually plotting each cell in pixel art. I'd have to research and study more on it if I would want to continue experimenting. But I'll put this on hold for now as well, from the frustrations I had from the previous experiment and this.
Image Detection that Generate Visuals
Yet another experiment that I just can't explain why and what I was doing... But I did like how the ASCII art looked.
Consultation with Jake
We've got another fresh eyes and insights that we could gather this week as we presented our ideas and questions to Jake, whose really, really good at tech stuff! I explained my project and the stuff I've done, and he gave some really good suggestions, such as using TouchDesigner and Web Render TOP for web browser visual aesthetic, alongside with using Mediapipe for gestures on TouchDesigner.
Reflections
It's been a long week of failures and frustration, and I realised the importance and significance of having a direction, clarity alongside with preparing for the experiments that I wish to work on! The previous few weeks it was great and productive, I had time to gather inspiration, and readings, and craft my purpose for each experiments. I would have to do the same again. I'm going to take a step back and get back on track again.
