Getting Ready Garden Web for the Internet, and Creating Alt Web Curation and all the other chaos

Figuring out how to hide API keys

Honestly, working on the technical side of this project traumatised me a little, so I was a little hesitant and apprehensive about trying to figure out how to hide the API keys. I was under the assumption that I needed to buy the $20/month plan on netlify for them to hide the API keys for me, but through the help of a google search and reddit discussions, I found out that Netlify offers a free function, called Netlify Functions, which allows you to create serverless functions that can be used to hide your API keys. With the power of prompt engineering, I was able to create an env file and store it in the netlify function folder.



Working on the Alternative Web Spaces Collection

As mentioned in previous weeks, one of the deliverable i'll be working towards is making this archive and curation of webspaces. The rationale behind it is inspired by case studies like Mindy Seu's Cyberfeminism index, where she practices gathering internet activism projects and translate it into a physical form. It's quite philosophical and I think it translated very well. So I thought that this hybrid poster and digital archive would serve the same purpose.
